A Guide to Appliance Parts & Accessories

Appliance Parts & Accessories

Even well-maintained appliances malfunction eventually. To elongate the lifespan of your appliances, it's important to replace any faulty parts and handle small repairs whenever they arise. When these are left without maintenance, they can burn more energy and cost you more money. It's smart to always check your appliances to see if they can be fixed before buying new ones.

If your appliances have lived at least half of their life and the repair costs outnumber the value of the product, you may want to consider replacing the entire appliance. When it comes to replacing oven parts and washers and bolts on laundry units, you want to make sure you're using the best replacement parts.

Parts for Washers and Dryers

If you have a wobbly washer or dryer, make sure that the units are level on the floor. If vibrating continues, the issue could be the drum seals — if they're worn or damaged, you'll need to replace them.

When the washer won't drain, there could be several culprits: seals and gaskets needing repair, buildup around the drain hose that needs to be cleared or a worn drain pump that needs replacing.

If you pile too many clothes into the dryer, the machine might not heat up properly. Be sure to always clean out the lint screen and dryer vent. You can double-check your drying setting for each load is appropriate, too. If you've maintained the dryer properly and there's still no heat, it could be a faulty or damaged thermal fuse. You should replace the thermal fuse if the issue persists.

Refrigerator Parts

If your fridge is a bit dark, one of the easiest repair tasks is replacing the bulb. When other problems appear, you should take a deeper look.

One of the most common issues people face with refrigerating units is a leak. If your fridge is leaking you may need to simply unclog the valve at the end of the defrost drain hose. A clogged or frozen supply of water can lead to leaking (you may notice a leak if it starts to pool under the refrigerator). The plastic water supply line could also be damaged or torn, in which case you should close the shut-off valves and replace the hose.

Dishwasher and Garbage Disposal Parts

A defective inlet valve is often the cause of most dishwasher issues. If the water will not fill or, adversely, if the water flow will not stop filling the dishwasher, you'll need to replace the valve. Leaks can also occur. Be sure to check for cracks or damage to the drainage hose. Also, pay attention to the heating element gaskets. The culprit is likely the dishwasher pump or pump seal. These parts should be replaced with a universal dishwasher installation kit.

Garbage disposals typically have issues related to clogging and wear. When a garbage disposal system malfunctions it often makes a humming noise due to there being a clog or electrical shortage. If there are leaks, check to be sure the unit isn't cracked. You can replace the gaskets and valves, but if the unit is cracked, it will need to be replaced altogether.
