When it comes to unpopular household chores, laundry is near the top of the list. However, when it’s time to wash and dry your clothes, you want to use the best appliances. Have you considered a commercial washer and dryer? Find out more and see if they’re right for your home.

What’s the Difference Between Commercial and Residential Washers and Dryers?

Commercial washers and dryers are built tough. They’re made with heavy-duty parts designed for high-capacity, continuous use in commercial settings and stand up to daily use better than the average residential washer and dryer. Like residential models, commercial washers and dryers are available as front- and top-load models.

A commercial-grade washer has a larger capacity so you can wash bulkier loads like heavy comforters, curtains and coats with ease. They also have more powerful motors. Commercial dryers have larger drums, faster spin speeds and take less time to dry, resulting in lower energy costs.

Commercial and Residential Washers and Dryers: How Long Do They Last?

The good news is that with both grades of appliances you’ll get your money’s worth. However, commercial washers and dryers are engineered for longevity. They also come with extended warranties. Consider this: commercial washers and dryers are designed for heavy duty use, day in and day out, whereas residential washers and dryers are used to wash, on average, four to eight loads per week. A commercial washer and dryer in your home would likely outlast a residential washer and dryer by many years.

Commercial

On average, commercial washers last about 15 years, but when maintained and serviced, last up to 20 years or more. Commercial dryers have an average lifespan of about 15 to 20 years. Like the washer, regular maintenance, including lint removal, proper venting, etc. may extend the life of the commercial dryer even longer.

Residential

You can expect your washer to last about 10 years and the dryer about 12 – 13 years. Of course, there are differences depending on the model, the amount of use, whether they’re regularly maintained and serviced and other factors.

Cost

As you might expect, commercial washers and dryers have a higher upfront cost than their residential counterparts, however, you may end up paying less in the long run. Shorter cycles use less energy which equates to savings. You may also see savings on repair bills. Commercial washers and dryers tend to require fewer repairs than residential equipment.

Reasons to Get a Commercial Washer and Dryer for Your Home

Besides the cost savings, here are a few more reasons you may want to consider purchasing a commercial washer and dryer for your home:

  • Commercial washers and dryers are built to last.
  • You’ll be able to wash more clothes in less time.
  • They have lower water and energy consumption.
  • Less risk of your laundry getting ripped or torn in the absence of an agitator.

The Right Choice for You

Commercial or residential washer and dryer – they both have their advantages, but in the end, they each accomplish the same goal. It’s not a question of which one does it better, but which one is better for you. Commercial washers and dryers are designed to last longer than residential machines. They’re also far more durable. A commercial washer and dryer may not be right for every home, but it may be right for you.
