Any enthusiastic home chef knows the struggle of balancing a multi-dish meal. Timing entrees and sides that cook at different temps to finish at the same time — it’s enough to make you want to order takeout. Work smarter instead of harder and consider a double oven for your next kitchen remodel.

What’s a Double Oven?

Exactly what it sounds like, most designs feature either a double wall oven or a double range oven. Double wall ovens offer two separate ovens with independent temperature and cooking controls. If you need to broil in one, you can bake in the other. A double range oven consists of a range on top and two ovens, one larger and one smaller, on the bottom.

Tip

There is no such thing as a right or wrong kind of oven — it’s about the right oven for you, your home, your budget and cooking needs.

Benefits of a Double Oven

A double oven kitchen set up with gray cabinets and white marble.

No matter the style you choose, there are a few advantages to a double oven:

  • There are two separate ovens that can be set to different temperatures allowing you to cook multiple dishes at once.
  • Use two different cooking methods at once. Bake, broil, air fry and more depending on the model you choose.
  • Most double ovens have a warming feature that lets you keep finished dishes hot until you’re ready to serve them.
  • They can accommodate the same size dishes your regular oven does, there is no reduced interior size when you get double ovens.

Double Oven Considerations

Here are a few reasons why a double oven might not be right for your space.

  • Since you’re getting two ovens instead of one, the price for double ovens and installation generally will be higher.
  • Double ovens are harder to install on your own and might require a pro to make space in your kitchen for this setup.
  • If you’re tight on space in your kitchen, double ovens do take up more room than a traditional single oven.

The Benefits of a Single Oven

Sometimes one isn’t the loneliest number, it’s the right number for your kitchen setup. Choose from a single oven range or a single wall oven. Single wall ovens do require more help for installation but eliminate the need to bend over since it’s placed at a more natural height.

  • A single oven typically costs less than a double oven or double range since you’re paying for one less appliance. You can invest more money into getting a smart oven with the latest technology.
  • It takes up less space than a double wall oven. Something important to think about if your kitchen already feels cramped or lacks flow. You’re not sacrificing potential cabinet space either.
  • The installation for a single oven is easier to DIY, especially if you’re replacing an existing oven range.

How to Decide Between a Single Oven and a Double Oven?

Again, there is no wrong decision. Appliances are an investment. The best thing you can do before buying one is be honest about what your needs and budget are. If you enjoy entertaining and frequently find yourself hosting, it makes sense to give yourself the ease to cook multiple dishes at once.

If you don’t love to cook, a high-quality single oven makes a lot more sense. It’s better to spend that extra money on another part of your kitchen remodel instead. Either way, there are plenty of popular options to shop at Lowe’s.
