How to Clean a Toilet Tank Like a Pro

Get a disinfectant spray designed for use in bathrooms. Spray the solution generously inside the toilet tank while avoiding the metal parts like flapper chains. Cover the tank’s walls and base with the spray. Allow the disinfectant to sit for 5–10 minutes. 

Scrub inside the toilet tank using a soft-bristled brush. Focus on areas with visible grime, mold or discoloration. Go around the internal components carefully and scrub gently. Try to dislodge the mineral buildup with the brush.

Open the shut-off valve and fill the toilet tank with water. Now, flush the water to rinse and remove all the grime you scrubbed. This step helps eliminate any remaining debris and cleaning agents, ensuring a clean tank interior. 

Pour the toilet tank cleaning solution into the water-filled toilet tank. Only pour as much solution as instructed in the user manual. Use a soft-bristled brush to stir the solution and mix it with the water. Let the solution sit overnight or at least a few hours.

Flush the solution inside the toilet tank. By this point, all the stains should have dissolved. For tough stains, you might need to repeat the entire cleaning process or use a more aggressive cleaning method. Use a soft-bristled brush to scrub the area. The grime would have lifted after being soaked in the solution. This will make it easier to get rid of hard stains.

Fill the toilet tank with water and flush it a few times. This will ensure all the grime and cleaning products are rinsed out. Fill the tank with water and put the toilet tank lid on. Make sure it fits snugly and is secure in place.
