Prepare for the New Kitchen Sink
Before you begin this project, read the manufacturer’s instructions and follow all local building codes.
Select the appropriate type of replacement sink. Single-bowl and double-bowl drop-in sinks can be installed on most countertop surfaces. Undermount sinks install beneath the counter and should only be used with solid-surface and natural or engineered stone countertops.
What Are the Different Kinds of Drop-In Sinks?
Drop-in sinks come in many different styles and formats. Consider the following options:
- Bowl Style: Choose from single-bowl sinks, equal double-bowl sinks or offset double-bowl sinks.
- Shape: Most full-size sinks are rectangular, but there are also smaller square and round styles for islands and bars.
- Color and Finish: Stainless steel is the classic sink finish, but black, white and brown styles are also available.
- Features: Find a sink that meets your needs with ADA-compliant and garbage disposal-compatible models.

Is It Easy to Install a Drop-In Sink?

Do Drop-In Sinks Need Support?
No, typically, drop-in sinks are able to support themselves simply by resting their edges along the edge of the countertop.
Are Drop-In Sinks Outdated?
While undermount and farmhouse sinks do have their benefits, drop-in sinks remain the most common type of kitchen sink and are by no means outdated.
