Types of Mirrors

A brown wood surface-mount mirrored medicine cabinet with pull-out storage baskets.

Surface-Mount Mirror — flat mirror that is usually adhered to the wall with adhesive, clips, or cleats. This is the easiest to install.

Surface-Mount Mirrored Cabinet — mounts to the surface of the wall with screws.

Recessed Mirrored Cabinet — fits inside a recess in the wall. This is a more advanced installation if you don’t already have a recess.

The easiest installation is to replace your old mirror with the same type of mirror. You can install a different type, but keep in mind you’ll have to make a few repairs to the wall. Then follow the specific instructions for installing your new type of mirror, whether it be replacing a medicine cabinet with a mirror or a non-mirrored recessed cabinet for a bathroom.
