Laundry Room Spring Makeover
No one wants to do laundry when things are a mess. We'll show you how to create an efficient and organized space in five easy steps.
Step 1: Clean Up
First, clean out any expired or unused items. Once you've decided what you're keeping, place like items in piles.
Here are a few ideas:
- Cleaning Supplies
- Laundry Supplies
- Iron and Ironing Board
- Towels and Cleaning Cloths
- Paper Goods
Step 2: Create a Folding Station
If you own a front-load washer and dryer, have a piece of butcher block cut to fit on top. This will create a folding station where you can organize your sheets, towels and clothes fresh out of the dryer.
Step 3: Organize Like Items
Now it's time to organize the contents of your laundry room. Use glass jars to hold detergent pods, clothespins, wool dryer balls and more.
Use baskets to hold like items, such as:
- Paper Towels and Toilet Paper
- Laundry Products: detergent, dryer sheets, bleach, etc.
- Ironing Products: steamer, starch, iron rest, etc.
- Cleaning Supplies
- Towels and Cleaning Cloths
After you've organized all of the products, use labels or a label maker so that items can be easily identified.
Step 4: Add a Drying Rack
For delicates that can't go in the dryer, a drying rack is a necessity. We recommend a retractable rack that hangs on the wall. When it's needed, expand it to dry numerous tops, sweaters, pants and more. Once you're done, the rack folds neatly into the wall. Drying racks are easy to install and they're durable, holding up to 50 pounds of clothing at a time.
If you prefer not to hang one on the wall, purchase a standalone drying rack that can fold up and hang from a hook when not in use.
Step 5: Finishing Touches
Don't forget the finishing touches. Hang a holder on the wall to neatly store the iron and the ironing board. If you have space, place a rolling utility cart next to the washer and dryer. It can be used as extra storage.
Finally, add a hamper or two. For easy portability, get a rolling hamper that can easily transfer from the bedroom to the laundry room.
