Painting Interior Faux Brick Panels

You can use this technique on a real brick surface, the brick pattern used on some poured concrete foundations, or as shown here, on faux brick hardboard panels. Before painting the panels, caulk the seams without leaving caulk on the surface and fill any nail holes.

Caution

Make sure there's plenty of ventilation in your space for this project.

Frequently Asked Questions About Painting A Faux Brick Wall

Here are answers to some common questions related to how to paint a faux brick wall.

What kind of paint do you use on faux brick?

Semi-gloss enamel paint is ideal for faux brick as it’s less likely to chip compared to other paint types. If you want the faux brick to show through the paint, consider an all-purpose white drywall primer which will create a weathered look.

How do you paint fake brick to look real?

Use a semi-gloss enamel paint for the best results. To add more realism to faux brick, you can use a sanding block to lightly scuff faux brick once the paint has dried. For a more dramatic look, you can use the sanding block on the brick while the paint is still wet to give it a hand-scraped feel.

What is the best adhesive for faux brick?

An all-purpose masonry adhesive is ideal for faux brick but always check the manufacturer’s instructions as the best adhesive for any project depends on the surface you’re applying it to.
