DIY Drill Holder and Charging Station
Building your own charging station is an intermediate-level project. You can customize and make a DIY drill charging station that fits into your garage space.
Select the wall on which you would want to make the drill charging station. Make sure it is within easy reach and near a power plug. Measure the space you have. Now, create a drill charging station plan that would suit this space.
You can do this by measuring the space required by each of your drill machines and make your own plan to fit them all. Include shelves and drawers in your station to store smaller parts. For instance, a simple drill charging station will have:
- 2 side planks
- 1 shelf plank
- T-supports to hang drill machines
- 1 backboard with hooks to hang the station
Keep the voltage in mind and ensure you do not overload the drill charging station.
Take the help of the drill charging station plan to know the required dimensions of wood. Now use a wood saw or miter saw machine to cut wood. Smoothen out the surfaces of wood planks with sandpaper.
Wear safety glasses and follow manufacturer instructions when working with a wood saw or miter saw.
Take the side planks and mark the points where the shelf plank will be attached. Use wood glue to attach them. Now secure its placement with the help of screws and a drill machine.
Wear safety glasses and follow all safety precautions when working with a hammer or drill machine.
Use a pencil to mark the placement of the power cord. It will depend on where you want to put the power strip. Make a hole of 1 and ½ inches with a drill machine in the marked point.
Apply a thin layer of wood glue inside the edges of this hole. It will help you get a smoother surface.
T-supports are used to hang the drill machines. It is a T-shaped setup that is screwed in an upside-down manner below the shelf plank. Attach two small wood pieces so that they form a T-shape. Ensure that they can snugly fit your drill machines. Next, screw them onto the shelf plank.
Use wood glue and screws to attach the top shelf. Consult the drill charging station plan and attach any more shelves you might have planned. Attach the backboard to the top shelf. Also include some provisions to hang the station on the wall. You can use heavy-duty hooks for this purpose.
Attach the power strip near the hole you previously made on the side plank. Make sure that all cords can reach the power strip easily. Secure the power strip with the help of screws.
Never connect two power strips together. Always plug the power strip into a grounded power wall outlet.
Sand the wood to remove any loose wood chips and get a smooth surface. Stain or paint the DIY drill charging station to match your interiors. Keep it in a well-ventilated space and allow it to dry out completely. Now, you can mount your DIY drill station and organize your tools on it.
