The Before Bathroom
This before bathroom was in need of a refresh. Dingy and dated floors, vanities, lighting and accessories were changed out according to budget.
The Good Bathroom: $2,500
For the first design, a little paint goes a long way. The pale yellow walls were painted a deep emerald. Jewel tones in rich greens, reds and deep blues are popular right now, and paint is the most impactful way to make a difference in a room without breaking the bank. Black matte hardware in the shower and tub provides an updated finish and is a nice contrast with the emerald walls.
The vanity area packs the most punch in this after photo. A moulding treatment around the vanity and over the tub adds some dimension and visual interest to the bathroom.
Brushed brass accents round out the look. A standard rectangular mirror was replaced with two framed mirrors, and the vanity lights got a much-needed update with brass globes. Brushed nickel cabinet hardware was swapped out with brass pulls and knobs. Matching faucets tie it all together. All of these changes cost around $2,500.
The Better Bathroom: $3,500
New elements were layered in with the second set of updates. This budget stayed around the $3,500 mark.
A matte white and brass chandelier and wall shelves warm up the tub area and offer storage. Green thumbs will like the addition of plants on shelves near the bathtub and in the shower.
But the most significant change in this bathroom is the update to marble-look floors. They replaced dingy brown linoleum for a clean and bright look.
The Best Bathroom: $7,500
We’ve saved the best for last. In the tub area, a teak table was added for easy access to towels, as well as uplighting on the shelves. A frosted Shaker door replaced the old builder-grade one.
A standout in this bathroom is the arabesque backsplash that surrounds the tub and shower. The old shower surround was replaced with tile, and a frameless shower door completes the space. The double vanity was replaced by one with a marble top. And the water closet door was replaced with a green-painted door and brass hardware to match the vanity.
Look closely and you’ll see that a built-in cabinet above the toilet adds needed storage. These updates cost about $7,500.
