If your refrigerator still works but is an eyesore in your kitchen – redecorate it. From swapping out the handles to painting it, there are a few ways to update your fridge that are less expensive than buying a new one. Here are five ideas to get your creative juices flowing.

Swap Out the Refrigerator Handles

One of the easiest ways to update your refrigerator is swapping out the handles. Choose a finish that matches your appliances or cabinet hardware for a cohesive look. Measure your refrigerator and freezer handles, then find new handles that match your existing measurements. Can’t find anything that fits? Remove the handles and coat them in a few layers of metallic or matte black spray paint for the same look for less.

Add Wallpaper to the Refrigerator

Since your refrigerator is a relatively smooth surface, peel-and-stick wallpaper transforms your refrigerator into a work of art. This is a great solution for basement fridges, renters or anyone who wants to upcycle their current refrigerator. If you’re worried about the wallpaper leaving a residue, stick a small piece on the side of your fridge first before going all in. Remove the handles before you start so you don’t have to work around them. A wallpaper with simple geometric lines makes it easy to apply.

Use Wall Decals on the Refrigerator

If you can’t get behind a full wallpapered fridge, grab a pack of wall decals instead. From large flowers to a stick-on calendar to keep track of your appointments and activities, decals allow you to create a truly custom look.

Paint the Refrigerator

Use appliance epoxy spray paint to transform your refrigerator in a couple of hours. While this is a more involved project, the results are worth it. Do this project before grocery shopping for the week since you need to take everything out of the refrigerator first. Have a friend help you move the refrigerator outside before your start spray painting, you’ll need room to work and proper ventilation. Lightly sand the surface of the refrigerator then wipe it down. Tape off any areas you don’t want to get painted. Do multiple thin coats for the smoothest finish.

Add Chalkboard Sheets to the Refrigerator

Use stick-on chalkboard sheets and create your own design that you can change whenever you want. Write down your weekly meal plan, an inspirational quote or a little of everything. Your refrigerator can be more than an appliance, it can be the central hub of your kitchen.
