Simplify front porch decorating by using the same planters throughout the season. Check out these clever front porch ideas to transition your planters from fall to Halloween and through the holiday season.

Festive for Fall

Ready to decorate for fall? Start with the first thing guests see — the porch. To create gorgeous fall planters, fill classic urn planters with hardy shrubs like 'Blue Point' juniper surrounded by other ornamental favorites like potato vine and coleus. For a pop of color, place bright mums in rustic barrel planters.

Add accessories into the mix with real and woven pumpkins, lanterns and other fall décor. You can also dress up an outdoor bench or chairs with fall throw pillows and cozy blankets. Complete the look with a festive door wreath and doormat.

Wonderfully Witchy

Before the fall season is over, switch over décor for Halloween. You can reuse the urn planters and mums while adding spooky Halloween decorations like Jack-o'-lanterns and lights. To create these charming DIY witch hats, all you’ll need is a few materials and a little time.

Christmas Charm

With just a few simple updates, you can transform your fall porch into a winter wonderland. Use the same urn planters and shrubs and surround them with dusty miller. This silvery perennial offers the perfect color and texture for holiday planters. Then, string holiday lights around the shrub and wrap a strand of gold bells around the planter. If your shrubs are sturdy enough, consider adding small, lightweight ornaments to its branches.

Finish decorating the porch with other door decorations like lights, garland, wreaths and other festive décor. Change out the throw pillows and blankets on your bench or chairs to complement the season.

Tip

Recycle shipping boxes by wrapping them with gift wrap and bows and displaying them on your front porch.
