The daylily (Hemerocallis) is considered a "sure bet" perennial. They thrive throughout most of the country, with the exception of the very deep south. They tolerate less then ideal conditions and will bloom faithfully for years with virtually no attention. As the name implies, daylily flowers open in the morning and die by nightfall. Each flower stem typically has at least a dozen flower buds, and the plant stays in bloom for many weeks. They should be planted in every garden. Hemerocallis Summer Wine is a stand out in the garden with its intense purple-wine colored flowers which measure 5.5" in size. Plant en masse in borders and beds for major curb side appeal. Likely for its grassy like foliage to stay evergreen in mild regions of the country. Perfectly paired with a gold colored daylily.
