Lemon trees need full sun, with at least 6 hours of daylight, for adequate growth; Beyond 6 hours of daylight, lemon trees can tolerate partial shade, especially in very hot and dry environments
Lemon trees must be planted in well-drained, slightly acidic soil; Water deeply once per week if planted outdoors and add mulch when planting in the landscape; In containers, water when the top of the soil is dry to the touch
Citrus trees don't like standing water; however, they will drop their leaves if left dry for too long; If planted outdoors, lemon trees should be planted a little higher than the ground to prevent pooling of water around their base
Lemon trees are cold-sensitive and because of this, should be kept in a container or planted on a building's south side; Citrus trees need protection from frost, and will not survive outdoors in climates with temperatures lower than 50 degrees Fahrenheit
Lemon trees will be comfortable in a container with adequate drainage and room to grow; Indoor lemon trees will grow to around 3 to 5 feet; Leaves may fall off when trees are moved indoors; Keep citrus trees in a sunny room and feed quarterly
