Learn MoreA bromeliad with plenty of visual kick, Neoregelia 'Pimiento' peppers and streaks its variegated leafy canvas with a medley of attractive colors. The center features rich red and burgundy, including deeply hued margins, and is dotted by flecks of white. The rosette’s outer leaves sport striated creamy middles and dark green margins and are tinged to varying degrees with a burgundy cast. Redder color in high light. The strappy leaves of Neoregelia 'Pimiento', Spanish for pepper, are a bit narrower and pointier than some other neoregelias, and not so stiff. Neoregelias are epiphytes, which means in the wild they grow on other plants or trees, using their roots to anchor themselves. You can grow them in soil or treat as an air plant. In summer, keep the soil moist, but in winter allow it to dry completely before watering. The center cup, or tank or vase, is where clusters of tiny flowers grow. It should be kept filled with water year-round. Flush out completely every couple of weeks to avoid stagnant water. Rainwater or distilled water preferred, as tap water causes mineral buildup. Provide bright, indirect light and good airflow. Neoregelias are light feeders. They prefer humidity around 60%, so consider using a humidifier or pebble tray if your home is on the dry side.
