Burgundy Shamrock is exactly what 1 would expect from a perennial of that name. Deep burgundy-red leaves are shaped like giant shamrocks and cover the plant completely for a look that is unique and dramatic. Small, white to pale pink, star-shaped flowers appear in midsummer and make a nice, soft complement to the dark foliage. Specially bred as a container plant, it's right at home in hanging baskets, window boxes and decorative pots. Pair it with lighter, brighter foliage plants or flowering perennials to create a dynamic presentation. A hardy plant, its leaves actually fold downward in times of stress, such as during heavy rain or drought, for protection from damage.
