This is a strong solvent similar to acetone but with a slower evaporation rate. It lessens but does not entirely remove problems that can occur with inadequate ventilation and concentration of vapor. It is superior to acetone for cleaning and degreasing applications. Although it is more costly, the low evaporation rate makes it a better value in many situations. MEK will dissolve in water.
