Husker Red Bearded Tongue is an improved version of Penstemon digitalis which is a native perennial variety from the mid-western area of the United States. It has a clump forming growth habit and grows to about 3 ft. tall in a full sun exposure. Husker Red produces emerges in spring with maroon colored leaves that mature to dark green through the summer. Every spring white flowers emerge on top strong stems and bloom until early summer. Husker Red is a former Perenial Plant Association plant of the year in 1996.
