20-in X 24-in Oil Painting On Canvas Edvard Munch, the famed Norwegian psychological painter and printmaker, was no stranger to family troubles. He lost both his mother at age 5 and his favorite sister at age 15 to tuberculosis. These events, combined with his father's religious fanaticism, led Munch to write later, "I inherited the seeds of madness. The angels of fear, sorrow, and death stood by my side since the day I was born." His father would sometimes entertain him with ghost stories and the writings of Edgar Allan Poe during the long winters. This painting was one which he produced several versions of, and is typical of his style which some view as rather macabre. Whether it is or not, it's as masterfully rendered in our handmade oil reproduction as the original, currently hanging in the Tate gallery in London. Frame Description: Renaissance Bronze Frame
