The Sumner Pecan tree is an excellent choice for a home orchard. It has a relatively large nut of good quality with a paper-thin shell that are easy to crack. It is noted for its high leaf disease resistance and is a favorite among commercial growers. The tree is also visually appealing with its upright growth and semi-open canopy. It is a Type-2 pollinator and should be pollinated with a Type-1 pecan tree (we recommend Cape Fear or Desirable). It is hardy in Zones 6-9 and should be planted in full sun or partial shade. The soil should be deep, moist, and well-drained. The plant is shipped in a #5 pot with a minimum height of 24 inches.
