The Leyland Cypress is a fast-growing evergreen tree with a dense, oval or pyramidal shape when left unpruned. The tree's dense growth and tall height make it a great choice for creating a living border that will block unwanted sights and reduce neighborhood noise. Besides its utility, this evergreen is nice to look at with feathery soft, textured leaves. Leyland Cypress will easily grow three to four feet per year, even on poor soils, and will ultimately attain a majestic height between 35-50 feet with a spread of 15 to 25 feet. Leyland Cypress quickly outgrows its space in small landscapes and is too big for most residential landscapes unless it will be regularly trimmed. Although it can be sheared into a tall screen on small lots, Leyland Cypress should probably be saved for large-scale landscapes where it can be allowed to develop into its natural shape. The Leyland Cypress is drought tolerant and hardy in Zones 6-10. The Leyland should be planted in full sun and can tolerate most types of soil, as long as they are well-drained. Once planted, prune for the first few years in order to encourage dense growth. This tree is shipped in a #7 pot with an average height between 40-48 inches.
