Black Knight Butterfly Bush is an easy-to-grow, drought-tolerant shrub. It produces fragrant, dark purple, nearly black flower spikes that lure butterflies to the garden from midsummer to frost. The flower spikes grow up to 10 inches long and look dramatic against the dark green foliage. Growing 6 to 12 feet tall, this buddleia can be planted as a focal point in a sunny or partially shaded garden or planted in groups to form a privacy screen or hedge. While it attracts butterflies, deer tend to avoid it. Because flowers are produced on new wood, it's best to prune the bush almost to the ground in early spring before new growth begins.
