Flowers in the genus of Dicentra are often commonly referred to as bleeding hearts due to their shape that seems to be more obvious in some varieties than others. Breeding and hybrid crosses have produced many new varieties in recent years. Combine with hostas and ferns for shade garden color all summer. Dicentra spectabilis 'Hordival' Plant Patent #22,739 is a newer introduction that produces red flowers and stems with greyish-green to purple foliage.
