Straw wattles are tubes of rice straw manufactured for use in the control and prevention of erosion, storm water runoff control and sediment control. Straw wattles stabilize slopes by decreasing slope length and by slowing, spreading and filtering overland water flow. Straw wattles help revegetate sloped areas by keeping the sediment from running to bottom of slopes by collecting the sediment and seeds enabling the seeds to settle and germinate. Straw wattles can also be used effectively on flat ground, they easily can be molded around drains to protect them from sediment pollution and installed as well along sidewalks to prevent sediment from washing into the gutter.
Made of compressed, and weed free straw
25-Ft in lengths for slope erosion control
Excellent soil erosion prevention
Used on burned slopes that has less than 30% of the original ground cover remaining and are at risk for increased erosion
Can be installed on slopes up to 70%, however their effect diminishes greatly on slopes steeper than 50%
They can be effective for a period of 1 to 2 years allowing for longer term permanent vegetation to take effect
Installed in a shallow trench forming a continuous barrier along the contour (across the slope) to intercept water running down a slope
Soils can be shallow but not less than 8-in
Also known as straw worms, bio logs, straw noodles or straw tubes
