Bathtubs come in all shapes and sizes. Use a tape measure to get dimensions of your space before you decide on a new tub.
Whether you’re considering a standard bathtub or a whirlpool tub, Lowe’s is your go-to for all things bath, from bathtub spas and one-piece bathtub-shower combos to wall surrounds, faucet hardware, drains and more.
Types of Bathtubs
Alcove bathtubs, or shower tubs, are the most common tubs. They’re installed adjacent to three bathroom walls and are finished with an apron front. Standalone tubs, also known as freestanding or soaking bathtubs, are deep bathtubs that offer a spa-like feel and include designs like a Japanese bathtub, which usually features a seat and allows for submersion to the shoulders. Freestanding options provide a dramatic focal point for the bathroom with options like a vintage-inspired copper bathtub, a luxurious wooden bathtub or a chic cast iron bathtub with a clawfoot bottom.
Walk-in tubs are designed for those who have mobility concerns. They allow bathers to enter the bathtub through a door and exit safely as opposed to trying to climb over a tub wall. Looking for a specific shape to maximize space in your bathroom? A corner tub fits into the corner to allow for extra room elsewhere in the bathroom.
Whirlpool Tub or Not?
Whirlpool tubs are equipped with high-pressure jets that create a swirling bath to massage aches and pains. But before you invest in a bath tub with jets, consider if it’s the right option for your space. Whirlpools come in a variety of sizes and styles, including freestanding tubs that offer the look of a vintage tub with state-of-the-art whirlpool technology. Whirlpools must be wired to their own dedicated circuits. Depending on voltage, some bathtubs with jacuzzi must be directly connected to a power supply, while others need to be plugged into ground-fault circuit interrupter receptacles. Before buying a whirlpool, speak to your plumber and/or electrician and ask the following questions: Will I need to reconfigure my bathroom to fit a whirlpool tub? Will a whirlpool tub fit through the bathroom door? Will my existing wiring support a whirlpool tub? Will my floor need to be reinforced to accommodate the weight of a whirlpool tub?
Whirlpool Tub Maintenance
To effectively clean a whirlpool, you’ll want to fill the tub with hot water to a few inches above the jets and run them for about 15 minutes. You can add a couple of teaspoons of powdered dish detergent or another disinfectant that’s low foaming. For a deep clean, you can also add bleach.
Bathtub Maintenance and Enhancements
Keeping your bathtub well maintained is essential for the life of the tub. When dirt, stains and lime scale build up, they can be difficult to remove. Regular cleaning with a nonabrasive commercial or homemade cleaner removes bacteria and germs and keeps your tub fresh. Daily rinsing after a bath or shower, weekly cleaning, and monthly deep cleaning help the tub look great and last longer.
If you’re looking to refresh your tub and a full bathroom remodel isn’t in the budget, consider bathtub resurfacing instead. You can give your tub a new look with bathtub paint or spruce it up with a bathtub refinishing kit. You can also have a bathtub cover or bathtub liners installed, which are acrylic inserts that fit over your existing tub. Make your bathtub work for you with features and extras, like a bathtub bench or bathtub shelf. Plus, we offer a range of bathtub enhancements — including bath caddies, non slip mats and bathtub grab bars — for your safety and convenience.
Bathtub shower doors are an alternative to a shower curtain and are a great way to update a tub-shower combination. Depending on the layout of your bathroom, you can choose bathtub sliding doors as well as bathtub doors that are hinged, pivoting, fixed or bifold. You can also choose the privacy level of your bathtub glass door, with glass style options ranging from clear to frosted. Different finishes are available, along with frameless, semi-frameless and framed designs. We also carry the other necessities you need for any bathtub project, including walls and surrounds, faucets, bathtub stoppers, bathtub caulk and drains.
At Lowe’s, we carry big bathtub brands like KOHLER bathtubs, American Standard, OVE Decors, Laurel Mountain and other high-quality brands you can trust. Each brand offers unique benefits. For example, Laurel Mountain Drift bathtubs feature hydrotherapy systems with 70 microjets to create a soothing water current.
If you don’t have the time or skill needed to install your new bathtub, we have you covered with our full range of bathroom installation services — including bathtub installation as well as shower door and backsplash installation — for a convenient, seamless and hassle-free experience. With Lowe’s, you can have peace of mind knowing that you’ll get professional installation for your bathtub.
