Boost Your Home’s Appeal With Hardscaping
“Hardscape” refers to the structures in your landscape that are made of
hard materials, such as walkways, fences, walls, patios and gazebos. Whether
you’re looking to make small-scale additions to your yard with stepping stones
and landscape edging or you want a more dramatic effect that uses concrete
pavers or brick pavers in patterned layouts, Lowe’s has the tools, materials
and accessories you need to complete your projects.
Complement Your Home’s Architecture
Hardscaping adds elegance to your home, especially when you choose
complementary materials. Modern, formal homes tend to have more right angles in
the architecture, so you’ll want to use smooth, rectangular landscaping pieces
like rectangular pavers. Other architectural styles — like cottage, Mediterranean
and Victorian — can shine when you use more casual hardscaping materials, such
as flagstone and river pebbles.
Want to create a winding pathway that leads guests to your front door?
Starting with a patio paver kit can make the job easier and provide beautiful
results.
Keep the Design Simple
With hardscaping, less is more. Get a clean and uniform look by sticking
to two or three types of material in your yard, such as brick edging paired
with traditional pavers. Choose pavers from a variety of colors and styles,
including classic, cobblestone, natural, brick and transitional.
Do You Need a Retaining Wall?
Retaining walls are structures that hold back the soil. They can also
add depth and create separate spaces.
For example, you might try erecting concrete retaining walls in two
different colors. Or create a tiered garden with short, wooden retaining walls.
You could add flair to your yard with a retaining wall built of interlocking
blocks. Use trapezoidal blocks to create a round retaining wall around garden
features or choose rectangular blocks for a straight wall. Some blocks even
have an interlocking back lip for extra stability.
