Install Wall Moulding

Build Built-In Bookshelves
Built-in bookshelves instantly transform a room, and you don’t need a contractor to bring the project to life. To get the look for less, Monica used basic shelves from Lowe’s as a starting point. Then, she used a combination of 2x4s and 1x8s to customize the store-bought shelves. To finish off the look, she used plywood to create the face of the built-ins, complete with a custom arch. The result gives the game room a chic, cozy look that’s also super utilitarian.
Apply Fresh Paint
When giving a room a fresh coat of paint, consider color drenching. Like the name suggests, color drenching drenches an entire room in the same hue to create a sophisticated look with tons of drama. Here, Monica drenched all the walls, trim and ceiling in the same deep rich teal, Valspar’s Cadet Song. To add a touch of contrast, she chose a bright green, Valspar’s Treeline, for the bookshelves.
Add a Family Game Table
A family fun room isn’t complete without a dedicated space to play and store games. Instead of a traditional coffee table, the Weekender team built a custom game table with a hinge, designed to store card games, board games and puzzles when not in use. To complete the table, they added faux drawers with decorative hardware as well as a custom painted chessboard/checkerboard on the table’s surface.
Finish the Space With Furniture and Accessories
To create a comfortable space where friends and family can gather, don’t forget to add multiple seating options. In this room, a velvet sectional mixed with hunter green faux leather pub chairs offer a cozy, den-like feel. The room is tied together with a variety of stylish accents including end tables for beverages, decorative lighting, a statement rug and other décor.
To keep the room a screen-free zone, consider incorporating a vintage-inspired record player and a shuffleboard table, like the ones shown here.
