Thinking about renovating your kitchen? Before you begin, get inspired with our roundup of top 2025 kitchen trends. Check out what’s trending this year, and what to leave behind, to bring your dream kitchen to life.

Wide Open Spaces

The kitchen has long been called the “heart of the home.” It’s where many of us gather — whether it’s for intimate family meals or big holiday get-togethers. Because of the time we spend in the kitchen, it’s no surprise homeowners are happy to dedicate more square footage to them. From extended dining nooks and oversized islands to indoor-to-outdoor spaces, bigger really is better when it comes to kitchens.

Natural Wood Cabinetry

For years, painted cabinets were all the rage. In 2025, we’re skipping paint and going back to nature with organic finishes. From wood cabinets and moulding to floors and more, all-over, warm, earthy textures and hues are so in. Choose from unfinished wood cabinets you can stain yourself or skip the work and choose pre-stained cabinets instead.

Countertop Continuation

Instead of mixing and matching backsplash tiles and other materials with countertops, we’re seeing countertop materials extending to kitchen backsplashes. The result is a clean, modern, seamless look. This type of continuation can make smaller kitchens appear larger than they are. For more inspiration, check out our guide on Kitchen Countertop Ideas.

Mixed Upper and Lower Cabinets

In 2025, there’s no need to go matchy-matchy. In fact, mixing upper and lower kitchen cabinetry is what’s on-trend. Many homeowners are choosing to use two different colors to create contrast between upper and lower cabinets. Before investing in new kitchen cabinets, check out our buying guide to help you find the best ones to suit your space.

Stylish Range Hoods

Say so long to the plain, stainless steel range hood. We’re seeing unique range hoods everywhere — ones that stand out in updated materials, with intricate textures and details. Right now, plaster hoods are a favorite amongst designers, but other options include wood and metals, like brass and copper.

Breakfast Nooks

Though they’re often called breakfast nooks as a catch-all, these spaces aren’t relegated to the first meal of the day. Dining nooks, a popular design feature of the 1920s, are back in a big way this year. The best part? They can work double duty as storage. If you need more space to stash table linens, charger plates and other serveware, create a dining nook designed with built-in bench seating to double as storage. Bold Color

One thing is clear: Gone are the days of all-white everything in the kitchen. In 2025, we’re embracing color; specifically, moody hues in shades of blue and green. But as long as it's not neutral, almost any color will do. Learn how to paint kitchen cabinets in our how-to guide here.

Sculleries

By definition, a scullery is a “small kitchen or room at the back of a house used for washing dishes and other dirty household work.” Popular in the Victorian era, these practical spaces are making a serious comeback. Sculleries typically have either a sink or dishwasher for cleaning, counter space for kitchen prep work and cabinetry for storage. Scullery kitchens serve a practical need but can be styled to serve aesthetic purposes, too. If you have the extra space to dedicate, a scullery is a perfect kitchen add-on.

Time-Honored Tradition

Traditional 90s-era kitchens are making a major comeback. Think natural wood cabinets, warm hues and timeless accents. If you haven’t renovated for a few decades, you might want to consider small updates instead of reinventing the wheel.

Beverage Stations

With so many gorgeous espresso machines, coffee makers, kettles and other small electrics on the market, it’s no surprise homeowners are carving out room in kitchens to put them front and center. Whether you want a custom coffee nook, or a more general bar area to mix up cocktails, consider dedicating space for a custom beverage station.

If you have a water hook-up nearby, go all out with a wet bar — which includes a sink for added convenience. If not, a dry bar is still nice to have. A beverage station is also the perfect location for a wine cooler or mini fridge. To complete the space, don’t forget to add a countertop ice maker so you can make all your favorite drinks at home (with the good ice).

Outdoor Kitchens

One mainstay in home design trends is the desire to embrace the outdoors. If you’re fortunate enough to live in an outdoor kitchen climate, this is a great way to add entertaining space without a major renovation. From inexpensive DIY outdoor kitchens to customized modular sets, your options are endless no matter your budget. Whether you want to be able to grill, smoke meats or make fire-oven pizzas, an outdoor kitchen is a great home addition (and it can add resale value).
