Paint Like a Pro in 3 Easy Steps

Cutting In

Dip your brush a third of the way into the paint. Tap the brush — don’t scrape — on the side of your bucket to remove excess.

Hold your brush like a pencil, and paint with strokes as close to the corners as possible. Be sure to feather out the edges to prevent runs.

Use a small paint bucket when painting on a ladder.

Rolling

Dampen your roller with a wet rag to help it pick up paint. Dip your roller partially into the paint; don’t submerge it. Use a roller grid or liner for even coverage.

Starting from the top, slowly roll the paint in a zigzag pattern. Work in 4-foot sections, and be sure to overlap your strokes.

Don't press or squeeze your roller against the wall. Your arms and wall will thank you.

Finishing Up

Turn your roller sideways for maximum coverage along ceilings and baseboards. Lightly roll over painted areas to remove buildup and runs.

Let the paint dry before applying a second coat. Remove any tape before the paint is completely dry to minimize peeling.

Thoroughly clean your tools and brushes so they are ready for your next project.
